Tahira Haider Ali
Tahira 'Didi' is well know and so is her singing. Until recently she had her own website and hence I did not put her songs on mine. Recently the website is no longer available and hence her songs are being displayed here.
I have known her since I was a young man in India. In 1988 I organised in Lucknow a Youth Conference called 'Youth Aflame', we had young people come from all over North India and in addition we had all the churches in Lucknow working together - probably the first and the last time it ever happened. Anyway, we had Tahira didi as our singer among others special guests.
The one thing that sticks out in my mind is that she asked me then 'Have you ever thought of going into radio?' and I found that question unusual because I wasn't even singing in those days. I guess she heard me leading the various sessions and felt that I had a good voice. Years later, when I met her here in Toronto, I told her about this incident and she couldn't remember.
